NZ trip summary

Finally, I managed to squeeze some time to write my NZ report.....it's really hard as I dunno how to start and not sure how much information I should include.
Anyway, here we go...

22 May - June
I arrived in Auckland. After 2 days, I left for Katikati and started to do kiwi picking. At the same time, I was also working in the kiwi packhouse for 2 weeks. It was such great fun getting to know so many people from different countries as we worked hard to do as much as we can since we r paid by contract rate. The best part about picking is I get to eat ripe kiwis straight fr the trees, and the worst part is it is a very physical work as we have to carry 15-20kg bag in front of us while reaching up to get more as fast as possible. During that period, always got up with I got shoulder ache, sore arm and also numb fingers, but the fun part of it keeps me going. Green kiwi is easier to pick compared to gold kiwi, but gold tastes better, hahaha.....at the end of my time in katikati, I had eaten the most kiwi I ever eat in my life in that 1 mth.Haha..

July
I spent 1 week at a fren's house located in Central North Island, a place called Ohura. So I get to see how they scanned the sheep (check for how many babies), how the shepherd dog work. And the best part is go hunting for wild pig. We got one and carry it like a backpack behind our back. We also wen canoeing down the river, and trust me the water is so cold, fuh!!!

After Ohura, I went to Taupo where Aude and myself went for a rope course called Rock n Ropes, that was great fun too...but we did not do skydiving as the weather is not good.

Then I join Jasmin and Vera to Wellington where I attended LOTR exhibition in Te Papa Museum. The museum is really interesting as it has many variety and not just pure historical stuff like bones and old vases....hehehe.... I also walked up Mt Victoria for Wellington 360 degrees view, went up with the cable car to the cable car museum, walk through Botanical Garden and join the Parliament tour.

End of July to Mid Sept
I went down to Bleinheim and found wrapping job in vineyard, only worked for 5 day as the work is too boring. Then I started travelling around South Island with Robert and Sebastian, 2 German guy I got to know during picking kiwi. Details of the trip will be in "Trip Around South Island"

Mid Sept to Mid Oct
I did some gardening work in Lincoln near Christchurch for 4 days ; worked for Kathmandu warehouse (preparing order) for 2 days ; Exchange work in Chez La Mer backpackers in Akaroa for 2 weeks, at the same time I worked for grocery store - Akaroa Supply Store during my free time. I also managed to climb up Purple peak for magnificent view around Akaroa and watch nice sunsetwhile fishing.

Mid Oct to Early Jan
I started working in Furneaux Lodge as housekeeping. My team mate includes Malaysian girl - Apple and Japanese girl - Akiko. We worked 5 days week and was paid according to the hours work. Furneaux Lodge is a really nice place as we can walk the Queen Charlotte Track (quite a famous walking track in NZ) during our day off, we can also go kayking in the inlet or across to Punga Cove (owned by Geoff's father) for Jacuzzi and swimming pool ; sometimes we go fishing and picking up mussels for our special meal. And I got quite a few fishes durign my stay including snapper, blue cod and tarakihi, and I almost got an octopus too. We also went out with the boat while they dived for scallops and sometimes we got fresh lobster. Other staffs includes people from NZ, Netherlands, England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada and US. While I was there, I was also driving the boat to fetch customer's from their big boat and yacht, I was also helping with waitressing as well as kitchen hand. It was one of the unforgetable moments of my trip and it was so hard to leave. Towards the end of my stay, I had managed to complete QCT including the walk to Jackson Head.

Early Jan to end of Jan
I got to Wellington, bought my little red car - Honda City Jazz. Then my trip around North Island begins..."Trip Around North Island"

1st to 14th Feb
Mak came on 1st Feb and we started travelling again around North and South Island till 14th when we fly back to Malaysia.

Alright guys....that's the summary of my report...if anyone wants a detail one, do let me know so I can send u a copy...

1 mth in NZ

Wow.....it has been a month now in NZ. Time really flies...
Not much things to update...I'm still in Katikati-Mural town. Stopped kiwi picking last Sunday. Suppose to start pruning but some uncertainty make me change my mind. So I'll be moving out fr Wolseley Road on Monday and stay with Pam (fellow pickers), worked in the pack house for another week and then leave to Ohura to Annette's farm.Sounds like a plan??
Still enjoying every moment of my stay..except when it gets too cold I wish I'm back in Malaysia. Temperature is still bearable...gets to around 3-5 degree celcius at night...

My 1st week in NZ

Wow.....it has been 1 week now I'm in NZ.
So far so good.....
I arrived in Auckland International Airport on 23rd May, 1000H, the weather was clear and nice, a lil bit cold, but not too difficult to cope.
Phoned to book my room at the BBH Hostel - City Garden Lodge on St Geoges Bay Road, just off Parnell Road.
I left the airport with AirBus, cost me NZD 13 After Backpackers discount, you got the voucher from the arrival guide that they give out at the airport), reach Queen St, got down and waited for Link Bus (NZD 1). The Hostel is pretty easy to find..... nice place too....

Met up with Faith and Lilian the next day at 1pm at Sky Tower, went for Chinese Food and went for a walk on Queen Street.

Phone Ralf, was told to come to Katikati for kiwi picking. So I left Auckland on 25th, 1315H bus, Intercity Coach (NZD 30) Trip took almost 3hrs. Met another traveller who is also waiting for Ralf, Nathan from Holland.

Started my kiwi picking on Friday....not an easy job, my whole body was so pain after the 1st day....back pain, shoulder ache, arm muscle pain, hahaha...

2nd day was raining, so we worked only 1/2 day....yahoooooooo....

Then 3rd, 4th, 5th......and today I got my 1st pay cheque.....

Made some new friends from Scotland, Chile, Brazil, Holland, England, France, German etc etc.....all backpackers....

I'm staying with the other pickers in the house, completely equipped kitchen, washing machine, TV and internet as well. A bit slow cause it's dial up...cooking my own dinner here everyday, also prepare my own breakfast and lunch too...packed lunch for our lunch break in the orchard...it's pretty fun seeing other types of dishes prepared by the otehr backpackers, hehehe...

So that's how my 1st week are...sounds boring? But I'm enjoying every bit of it...pickign kiwi gets boring some time....but I still like it...let's c wat I've got to say afetr another week....Btw, I managed to steal a half day off to visit Tauranga, the town nearby...nice beaches, but I din get to the top of Mount Manganui....will go some other time, heard its fantastic view up there...

Will upload the photos some other time.

Working Holiday In NZ...Count down...31 days to go...

Wow....just another 1 month, I will be flying to NZ.
I had been looking forward for this trip since I got my visa pproved. When was that??In January, yeah...
A bit excited, a bit worried, wonder how is it going to be like, staying at other ppl's country for so long. My longest oversea trip so far is 10 days, I think....
Recently I started to send emails to frens, informing them about my resignation. Some calls, some write emails, some just keep quiet.
And those that reply always asked this question, "Are you going alone??"
And after my answer, "Yes", frens seems to feel awkward, some even asked,"Really going alone??"
I wonder what is wrong about going alone...lots of fren also go study abroad alone, but when I want to go holiday alone, suddenly everyone feel unusual....haha....funny, isn't it??There seems to be a hidden rule some where...in our mind...a preset program.
Yes, I am going alone....this is something I wanted to do, so I guess there is nothing wrong chasing ur own dream, ALONE..... A fren called after I told him I'm going alone, he said I sound a bit sad. Hemnnn...this got me thinking...am I??Maybe again, it the preset program, "ALONE", the word itself comes with some sadness, some helplessness, some....hemnn, just all the not very enthusiastic word.
Travelling alone can be lonely at times, but it also means freedom, I kind of like the feeling of not needing to tell anyone what is my next plan, and I dun even really ahve to plan, wow....cool man!!And who knows I might made some great frens along teh way, some interesting pepole, from another corner of the world..
What ever it is....New Zealand....here I come......yahooooooooooooooooooo!!!
